Anyone hoping to escape the torrent of MSN ads by turning to their mobile browsers will have to look elsewhere. Today, Microsoft will begin displaying advertising alongside its mobile search client, ushering in a new era of tiny ads and annoying sales pitches. According to the company, American search customers will see ads that “conform to the U.S. mobile advertising guidelines provided by the Mobile Marketing Association to deliver a more consistent and engaging experience for consumers.” Sounds like an increase in the “annoying” factor to us, but we’ll have to wait and see just how intrusive these little buggers turn out to be. The lack of tabbed browsing on most mobile devices becomes a bit of a virtue in this case, however, as we probably won’t see the widespread appearance of mobile pop-up ads for quite some time. Thank God.
