Releasing a new flagship smartphone has become tricky because you don’t want to release it too closely to new Samsung flagships that launch in the spring or new iPhones that launch in the fall. With this in mind, it looks like LG will be releasing its latest flagship device in July, according to a new report from ZDNet Korea.
“An August launch seems too late considering the current market situation,” an unnamed LG executive tells ZDNet Korea. “We’ve completed many features that our competitors don’t have very quickly. (The G3) will go on sale on more carriers than any other LG Electronics’ smartphones.”
The G3 looks like it could be one of the big sleeper Android phones released this year. Even though it won’t arrive with the hype of the Galaxy S5 or even the HTC One (M8), it’s still rumored to boast an insanely pixel-rich 5.5-inch quad HD display with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440-pixels. A recent report in The Korea Herald also suggests that the G3 might be the first LG device to run on one of LG’s own homemade processors.
We can also expect the new device to have some of the slimmest side bezels of any phone on the market since LG has been a trailblazer when it comes to creating phones where the display takes up as much of the front panel as possible — the LG G2’s display, for example, takes up more than 75% of the device’s front panel, better than any other smartphone.
