Looking for ways to keep your house in better shape than it currently is? Are you desperately looking to declutter your home and make it look more clean? Then you must check out this new Japanese cleaning “cult” that can provide several tips on significantly improving the appearance of every room in the house.

DON’T MISS: Prime Day: Everything we know about tomorrow’s massive Amazon sale (including deal prices)

Discovered by Business Insider, Marie Kondo is a Japanese lifestyle celebrity who authored a book solely dedicated to making your house neater. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing (available on Amazon at this link) became a best-seller this year, making Kondo one of Time’s Top 100 Influential People list.

According to Kondo, when decluttering a home you have to follow a certain order. Start with clothes, and then move to books and documents, then to miscellaneous items and finish with mementos. You’ll be able to determine what items “spark joy,” so you can keep them around and find a proper place for them.

To Kondo your home, you’ll also have to do plenty of throwing away. All the stuff you don’t need goes to the garbage, including clothes, leaving you with just the stuff you need.

Figuring out what items to keep isn’t the only thing you should do. There are also ways of folding clothes so that you immediately see what you have in a drawer, and better choose whether you’re going to wear them or not.

Neatly arranging your clothes isn’t the only thing you should do. Move on to books and all other items, and at the end you should have a home that looks a lot better before Kondo-ing it.

To keep everything organized, you must remember one more Kondo life hack: every item should have its own place. It’s important for you to put every single item back to its place once you’re done using it.

Kondo even told Business Insider that as soon as a home is cleaned up her way, the overall quality of life of the owner has improved, leading to changes in lifestyle and overall appearance.
