Google Maps is by far one of the most useful apps you can install on your mobile device or load on a computer, and it’s available across all operating systems. The app offers quick access to maps and directions, and there are plenty of neat tricks to make everything even faster and more enjoyable. In fact, the unofficial Google Operating System blog has discovered a neat new feature that will improve the overall Maps experience on older computers.

Called Google Maps Lite Mode, the trick is basically an older version of Maps meant to load faster than the newer, feature-packed version of Maps.
While the Lite mode will load faster on your machine, there’s also a downside to using it: you won’t be able to use many of the great newer features Google has added to Google Maps in recent years.
Once you’re in Google Maps Lite, you won’t be able to see any 3D imagery or Earth view. You also won’t be able to see your computer’s location on the map, set up home and work addresses, search nearby, measure the distance between two locations and get coordinates, drag routes, embed a map, send a place to your car, view My Maps in Google Maps or report a map data problem to Google.
Obviously, you can switch back at any time between the old (Lite) and new version. Just click the lightning bolt in the bottom-right corner to switch to the full version of Maps.
