Galaxy Note 5 release date revealed in new report

July 14th, 2015 at 11:25 AM
Galaxy Note 5 Release Date August 21

Recent rumors said that Samsung will launch the Galaxy Note 5 a lot earlier than expected, so that the flagship phone will actually have a fighting chance against the iPhone 6s Plus. Now, a new report claims to have revealed actual dates for the Galaxy Note 5 launch event, as well as a firm release date.

DON’T MISS: Apple’s iPhone 6s is almost here… time to take out the trash

Rather than being unveiled in early September at the German IFA trade show, the Galaxy Note 5 will be made official on August 12th, SamMobile has learned.

The new phablet will be launched alongside the bigger Galaxy S6 edge Plus, the Samsung news blog says. Furthermore, SamMobile says the phones will be available in stores on August 21st. The two devices will also come with Samsung Pay support enabled in the U.S.

Assuming the dates are accurate — SamMobile has a solid track record — Samsung could sell the Galaxy Note 5 for a full month before the iPhone 6s Plus launches. Last year, Apple’s iPhone 6 models crushed Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, even though the fourth-generation Note phablet was announced before Apple’s new iPhones.

SamMobile also offered a bunch of details about the new Samsung handsets. The Galaxy Note 5 will reportedly not pack a microSD card slot. The phone will be a “blown-up version of the Galaxy S6,” but it’ll have a thin bezel. It will come in silver, gold, black and white. Also, the S Pen will look and feel more like a pen than previous versions, the tech blog said.

As for the Galaxy S6 edge Plus – or the Galaxy S6 edge+, as SamMobile calls it – the new phablet will basically be a bigger version of the Galaxy S6 edge. The device should be powered by the Exynos 7420 chip and pack 3GB of RAM.
