Assassin’s Creed, one of the biggest multiplatform video game properties, is reportedly double dipping on the release schedule this fall, making separates appearances on the recently released Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Last month we covered a conference call in which Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot mentioned five major releases coming in 2014, two of which hadn’t been revealed. We assumed that one of them would be an Assassin’s Creed title, but screenshots obtained by Kotaku (along with information from various other sources) seem to indicate both of the unannounced games will be part of the popular franchise.

Assassin’s Creed Unity, the purported name (or possibly code name) of the current generation title, will apparently take place in 18th century Paris, as evidenced by the landmarks in the leaked screens, such as Notre Dame and the Seine river. Previous leaks from gaming forum NeoGAF have also placed Unity in the French Revolution, putting players in control of Arno the assassin. Kotaku’s “developer sources” have corroborated this information as well, although Ubisoft predictably declined to comment on any of the leaks.

There’s no doubt that these screens were lifted from an unfinished game, but even this early in development, Unity looks like another visual leap forward for the franchise. Check out the leaked images below.
