The Wall Street Journal

on Tuesday confirmed multiple earlier reports stating that Apple may have plans to launch a low-cost version of the iPhone sometime in the second half of 2013. The smartphone is said to resemble the current iPhone, although it could feature a new external design. One possibility, The Journal suggests, is that Apple (AAPL) will use a different shell made of polycarbonate plastic to bring the price down, although many of the other components could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models. Earlier reports have suggested that Apple could launch the “iPhone 5S” by June with several new color options.
