A new report from The Information claims that Walmart is planning to roll out a shipping service of its own aimed at taking on Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer.
Walmart’s upcoming shipping service is reportedly codenamed “Tahoe” and is on schedule to launch sometime later this spring or summer. Notably, Walmart was initially hoping to have its nascent shpping service up and running before 2015 but was ultimately forced to delay its release amid technical difficulties with the service’s software.

As for specific pricing details, Walmart’s shipping service will cost just $50 a year, a whopping 50% discount from the $99 Amazon charges for its Prime service. Of course,
Walmart’s upcoming shipping service promises to deliver purchased goods to customers within three days and. Notably, Walmart already has a grocery delivery service up and running in five markets going back to 2011.
All in all, it’s nice to see some additional competition in the online retail space. Now whether or not Walmart can put a dent in Amazon’s Prime business is another question altogether.
