After an iPhone 6 picture from China suggested earlier this week that Apple may have built some special 32GB iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus units, which are on display in a few stores in the region, French publication Consomac has been able to find out more details about said device and has even confirmed its existence in the process. Unfortunately, there’s no good news for potential iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus buyers looking for 32GB versions.
FROM EARLIER: What if Apple fixed one of the iPhone 6’s biggest disappointments?
As the publication discovered, the image taken in China appears to be genuine, and Apple stores might indeed be displaying 32GB variants of the phone — or at least that’s what they might look like.
In reality, Apple is displaying 64GB iPhone models in stores , which have two distinct partitions that allow retail store staff to quickly perform a system restore, while keeping demo content on those devices.
The publication found a similar device in an Apple retail store in Lyon, France, which also appeared to have 32GB of storage space available to the user. However, its model number actually corresponds to a 64GB iPhone 6.
Apple this year changed storage versions for the iPhone 6, making certain models even more affordable than before, and even introduced an 128GB version. However, the cheapest iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus models still come with just 16GB of storage, an aspect that has been previously criticized. However, that doesn’t mean Apple is planning to release 32GB iPhone 6 models anytime soon.
