Apple’s best MacBook Air yet is supposed to feature an entirely new design, as well as better components. Often referred to as the Retina MacBook Air, the laptop should have a 12-inch high-resolution display, and should be even slimmer and lighter than its predecessors. It’s not clear when Apple will launch this new version of the MacBook Air, but a new report from Digitimes says the company will start mass producing it in the first quarter of 2015.
FROM EARLIER: Is Apple still launching the ultra-thin Retina MacBook Air this year?
The device has already gone through a “pilot production” run this year, the rumor states, and it looks like Apple suppliers are getting ready for mass production. Quanta Computer is supposedly building the device for Apple, though it’s not clear when the laptop will be launched next year.
The 12-inch MacBook Air is supposed to feature a completely new fanless design made possible by Intel’s recently launched Core M processor, that’s supposed to offer improved performance while being more efficient.
Apparently, some yield issues have been encountered but they’re gradually resolved, as mass production nears. The publication also says that the Retina MacBook Air is supposed to arrive in limited shipments, as Apple targets the high-end market segment.
Furthermore, suppliers providing Apple Watch components are apparently also gearing up for mass production plans for Apple’s first smartwatch.
