If you thought companies like Samsung and Xiaomi were shameless with their iPhone ripoffs, wait until you see what HTC has been cooking up behind closed doors. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, but newly leaked photos appear to HTC’s new flagship smartphone for the second half of 2015… and by the looks of things, it’s basically an iPhone 6 that runs Android.

And once again, we have to ask… why does every Android phone company think it can be Apple?

Apple is about to unveil its next-generation iPhone 6s early next month, and it looks like HTC will follow closely behind with a new iPhone 6s of its own. If you’re confused, this leaked picture posted recently on Chinese social networking site Weibo should clear things up for you:

Is that not the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen?

HTC is in tons of trouble right now and in some ways, it makes sense that it would look to the world’s most successful smartphone maker for guidance. But as we’ve explained in the past, there can only be one Apple. All of these smartphone companies that hope to succeed by following Apple’s formula — and by copying Apple’s phones — are in for a world of hurt.

Right now, there are two strategies that are yielding actual profits in the smartphone industry. The first is being Apple, and the second is selling dirt-cheap Android phones in the Asian and European markets. Companies with smartphone businesses that don’t fall into those two groups aren’t going to find real success until they truly start to think outside the box and come up with something new and exciting.

In the meantime, here’s another picture that shows the front of HTC’s rumored iPhone 6s, which has been referred to thus far as the HTC Aero:
