NBA player Matt Bonner may not be a household name, but the San Antonio Spurs forward jumped into the headlines today for the strangest of reasons. Believe it or not, Bonner’s tennis elbow problems last year may have resulted from overusing Apple’s larger-screened iPhone.

In an interview conducted with the Concord Monitor, Bonner explained why his shooting percentage went down rather dramatically during a two- to three-month stretch last season. From December through February, during which Bonner had tennis elbow, his shooting percentage dropped from 42.8% to 32.4%.
“Everybody is going to find this hilarious, but here’s my theory on how I got [tennis elbow],” Bonner explains. “When the new iPhone came out it was way bigger than the last one, and I think because I got that new phone it was a strain to use it, you have to stretch further to hit the buttons, and I honestly think that’s how I ended up developing it.”
It’s an interesting, if not comical, theory, but it seems strange that Bonner, standing tall at 6’10, would have any problem at all reaching any part of the gargantuan iPhone 6 Plus display.
All the same, we have seen similarly strange reports in the past. One NBA player a few years ago, for instance, once had to sit out for a few games after developing carpal tunnel syndrome following a few extended video game marathon sessions.
