On Monday, we shared a link and some instructions with readers intended to help them identify what personal information Google has collected about them in its efforts to build comprehensive profiles and serve targeted ads. Of course, Google collects a huge amount of data from its users to support what is likely the world’s most complex online advertising solution, so one single link isn’t going to show you everything you need to know.
Now, we’re back with five more URLs Google users need to know in order to see even more personal data that Google has collected.
DON’T MISS: Thank you, Google, for being so ‘evil’
As we noted in Monday’s post, visiting https://www.google.com/ads/preferences will let you see much of the data Google has gathered on you, and you can even customize the ads Google displays for you.
But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Via Reddit, a post by Cloud Fender details five additional links you’ll want to visit to see what Google knows about you. More importantly, you’ll be able to better control the personal information Google stores when building your user profile.
First up, https://maps.google.com/locationhistory will show the location history Google has saved. If you use Google Maps on a phone and you haven’t set it to stop tracking you, this page will probably be somewhat shocking.
For instructions on how to stop Google Maps from tracking you, visit this post.
Next, Cloud Fender notes that you can see your entire Google search history by visiting https://history.google.com. You can also remove items if you want, or stop Google completely from saving your search history. Of course, this will also make it impossible for you to use awesome Google services like Google Now.
