The Nexus 6 is not yet widely available in the U.S., with Google and Motorola having sold only a limited number of devices to date, and with U.S. carriers yet to officially launch the handset. After a report recently revealed that T-Mobile will have a limited number of units in stores on Wednesday, a Reddit post now offers more details surrounding Sprint’s Nexus 6 offer.
FROM EARLIER: You’ll have a hard time finding a Nexus 6 in T-Mobile stores at launch
According to verified Sprint employee iamdenden, Sprint will only stock the 32GB Midnight Blue Nexus 6 version. An actual launch date for the Sprint Nexus 6 isn’t available though.
Buyers looking for the 64GB model, or a different color, should buy the handset directly from Google or Motorola. The same employee revealed that users will be able to buy a Nexus 6 handset from the Google Play Store and then activate it on Sprint’s network, according to a set of Google Play Activation questions he posted on Reddit.
“Can a customer purchase a Google Nexus 6 from Google Play and Activate on the Sprint Network? Yes. Devices purchased from Google Play come fully ‘Unlocked’ Out of the Box and are able to be activated on the Sprint Network. Devices bought from Google Play do not come with a UICC SIM Card and the customer will need to obtain one from Sprint in order to activate on the Sprint network,” one of the questions reads.
The employee also said that users shouldn’t expect to pay an activation fee when bringing their unlocked Nexus 6 into a Sprint store, as the process doesn’t involve signing a contract or getting a subsidized phone.
In addition to T-Mobile and Sprint, AT&T and U.S. Cellular will also carry the Nexus 6, and the phone can work on Verizon as well, though the nation’s top carrier apparently won’t sell it in stores.
