It’s no secret that Netflix to expand in additional European markets this year, but the company has never offered an exact rollout plan for the new countries it wants to conquer. Fortunately, in a new letter to shareholders spotted by Android Police, Netflix confirmed that its European presence will see a significant increase in September, when the movie streaming service will reach six new markets.
“Outside the U.S., we generated continued growth in all of our markets. We ended Q2 with 13.8 million international members, growing 78% y/y,” the company wrote in the letter. “In September, we’ll be launching Netflix in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg. This launch into markets with over 60 million broadband households will significantly increase our European presence and raise our current international addressable market to over 180 million broadband households, or 2x the number of current U.S. broadband households.”
While an actual launch date or pricing details are still unavailable, at least the company offered more details about its European expansion.
Potential Netflix subscribers interested in signing up for the service once it reaches their country can go to the Netflix website and sign-up to be notified via email about local launch plans.
Netflix currently has almost 48 million paying customers, and plans to add almost 3.69 million more subscribers next quarter, when the European expansion is set to take place, with 2.36 million of new customers expected to join Netflix in international markets.
