A complete list of the 240 new emoji coming soon to a phone near you

Tweens, teens and hip parents around the world, rejoice! Unicode, the consortium responsible for ensuring that text in software is consistent across the globe, has released a new version of its standard. Unicode 7.0 adds a total of 2,834 new characters including pictographic symbols, geometric symbols, arrows and Wingdings. Also included among them are 240 brand new emoji for your texting pleasure.

Now, it’s important to note that Unicode sets the standard — it doesn’t create emoji graphics. That’s why you’ll notice that emoji are slightly different when they display on an iPhone or on an Android phone, for example. It’s up to software makers to create the graphics that correspond to each emoji, and smartphone platform makers must now get to work designing these 200+ new emoji before you can enjoy them.

In the meantime, here’s a complete list compiled by The Washington Post of every new emoji you can expect to hit smartphones and tablets in the near future, including instant classics like “dagger knife,” “raised hand with part between middle and ring fingers” and “man in business suit levitating”:
