Apple’s iWatch will reportedly have integrated wireless battery charging capabilities, a new report from China says, citing Luxshare insiders who have revealed that the company has already provided wireless charging coils for the product. Apple is said to currently be testing the company’s wireless charging coils in the iWatch and pending approval, Luxshare may also supply the wireless charging module for the device.
The same sources claimed the iWatch will be released in the second half of the year, without specifying an actual launch date for the highly anticipated Apple product.
Recent reports have revealed that the iWatch design has been finalized, adding that the device will have a round shape like a regular watch and will enter production in late July.
Previous rumors revealed that Apple was considering wireless charging for the iWatch in order to deal with a pressing issue for the device, which is battery life. The company apparently wants its smartwatch to last for up to 5 days on a charge rather than up to 2 days, which was the case for some iWatch prototypes according to reports.
Apple’s Eddy Cue revealed in an interview with Re/code that the company’s 2014 product lineup is the “best” in his 25 years with the company. However, he did not confirm the iWatch, which will likely be one of the key devices Apple will launch this year, as it’s rumored to feature several health and fitness sensors, and integrate with other iOS devices via a special Healthbook iOS 8 app.
