Most independent studies have shown that Verizon has the strongest overall mobile voice and data network and now the carrier is poised to make it better than ever. Verizon on Monday announced that it’s started rolling out its XLTE network upgrade that promises to deliver not only faster peak download speeds but also twice the available bandwidth for users. This means that you’ll be much more likely to get a decent mobile data connection even in crowded areas where lots of people are trying to upload and download data at the same time.
This upgrade was made possible by Verizon’s huge acquisition of spectrum licenses on the AWS band from cable companies back in 2012, which gave the carrier another huge chunk of spectrum to use for its LTE network alongside the 700MHz spectrum it’s traditionally used. Several big-name devices that Verizon sells will be able to take advantage of XLTE right from the start, including the iPhone 5s, the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy Note 3 and all Motorola’s latest Droid-branded devices.
