No one can create product buzz quite like Apple, much like no one can avoid product buzz quite like Apple. True to form, sometime in the past few days Apple upgraded the specs on its white MacBook bringing it much closer in line with its aluminum unibody brothers. While the processor is down 100MHz and currently stands at 2.0GHz, Apple compensated for the loss with a much faster 1066MHz front side bus. RAM now starts at 2GB via two 1GB sticks of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM and the graphics are now pumped out of an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of DDR2 SDRAM. As for the hard drive upgrades, an optional 320GB 5400-rpm drive is now available alongside the 160GB and 256GB options. This news will likely upset quite a few people but it’s completely understandable from Apple’s point of view – the company would not want to announce anything that could dampen sales of its higher-end unibody MacBooks. The base price on the white MacBook has not been affected by these changes and still rings up at $999.
