Don’t let the summer doldrums bring you down. This tech gear will liven up any beach excursion and make you want to soak up the rays for even longer. This year, GoPro released a new beach-worthy action cam called the Session while there’s a brand new paddleboard that inflates in minutes. There’s even a new Bluetooth speaker that looks like a rock you found on the shore. Basically, your gadgets don’t have to stay in an office, in your car, or the hotel room – they can hit the beach with you.

1. Sevylor Alamosa Stand-up Paddleboard ($1400)

The techiest feature on this stand-up paddleboard is that it can fit in your trunk. You just use the included pump to inflate to a full 11.6-feet-long and 2.7-feet-wide. A high-tech nozzle twists and lets the air in — but not out — when you inflate it, similar to a bike tire. The paddleboard has a solid drop-stitched nylon material with a see-through hole and a storage compartment for a cooler. The Alamosa weighs 27 pounds and accommodates someone up to 300 pounds.

2. GoPro Hero4 Session ($400)

The biggest name in action cams has released a beach-friendly model that’s smaller, lighter, and easier to use. There’s one button for controlling recordings (wide angle photos and videos). The camera is waterproof when submerged up to 33-feet of water, but you can add a floatation case, extra mounts, and even a selfie-stick to give some variety to your action cam videos. The Session now has the standard micro-USB port that is common with Android smartphones

3. Outdoor Tech Big Turtle Shell ($200)

Not many outdoor Bluetooth speakers can boast these specs. The Big Turtle Shell looks like a rock you have sitting next to a beach blanket. It pumps out 110 decibels of audio. You can sync the speakers to your iPhone or Android using Bluetooth 4.0 (for easy pairing), and also stream music using AptX, the high-fidelity streaming tech that leads to more pristine sounds. The 2.2-pound speaker is waterproof, lasts 16 hours per charge, and has a USB port for charging other gadgets.

The engineering of this high-tech kayak will give you bragging rights at the next water crossing. It uses a contoured seat that matches how most people sit. It has padded guards if you want to take on the rapids. The “sit on top” design gives you a better view of the water. There are multiple storage compartments including a live well and a place to tie-down your gear. The kayak weighs 59-pounds and has front and rear handles for transport.

5. Pocketfinder GPS Locator ($102)

This indispensable gadget is for parents to keep track of the kids at the beach. The waterproof device connects to an app on your smartphone so you can see your child’s location in real-time on a map. The device is waterproof, lasts all day, and costs just $13 per month for a subscription. You can hand out multiple locators and manage them all from one app or website.
