Microsoft has recently confirmed that Windows 10 is launching on July 29th, but the release doesn’t cover the phone version of the software. However, it looks like Microsoft might have inadvertently leaked the launch time frame for the Windows 10 phone update in a presentation to one of its partners.

According to a slide obtained by Neowin, Microsoft plans to make the Windows 10 update available to Windows Phone handset makers at some point in late September, or “late next quarter,” as the image below puts it. However, there’s no firm release date for Windows 10 Mobile just yet.

“The spokesperson was a bit less enthusiastic though, hedging the company’s bets and saying the OS should come in October, ‘or possibly as early as September,’” Neowin writes.

Moreover, this information about the Windows 10 Mobile release time frame was relayed to OEMs and partners, meaning that most consumers might have to wait even longer until their existing devices can be updated to Windows 10. Windows users already testing the next-gen mobile OS via the Insider program might get the update a bit earlier than everyone else, or at least have early access to a software version close to the final build.

Microsoft is also expected to launch high-end Windows Phone handsets soon, but these devices aren’t likely to come out before Windows 10 Mobile is ready to roll out.
