A Microsoft exec has revealed that Windows 10 will be launched slightly later than anticipated next year, Reuters reports, with the company eying an autumn launch rather than summer 2015.

Microsoft COO Kevin Turner this week told Nikkei that the new operating system will be released “early next fall,” without providing an actual launch date.

Only last week, the company still offered a summer 2015 release window for its next-genOS.

“By next late summer and early fall we’ll be able to bring out this particular OS (operating system). That’s the current plan of record,” the same Turner said last Thursday at the Credit Suisse Technology Conference.

Reuters points out that an autumn release would put the Windows 10 on track to launch three years after Windows 8.

The company has already released a Windows 10 Technical Preview version, which many users can try out if they so desire, though the beta version does not include all the feature Microsoft will pack in the final Windows 10 version. One of these unavailable features is Cortana, the Windows Phone virtual assistant that’s going to be available to Windows 10 users as well, offering them a similar experience.
