It looks like the black iPad 5 that leaked back in January might never see the light of day. Apple did away with its black and slate color combination on the iPhone 5s this year, which is much appreciated since the black iPhone 5 looked a lot like Darth Vader’s belt buckle. In its place, a slick new “space gray” color was made available. According to images leaked on Wednesday morning by Sonny Dickson, it looks like Apple’s upcoming fifth-generation iPad will also be made available in the new space gray color, which makes sense since we recently saw a space gray Retina iPad mini housing leak as well.

Apple’s next-generation full-size iPad is expected to get a complete makeover for 2013. The new slate is rumored to be shorter, narrower and thinner than the current fourth-generation model, and it will feature a redesigned look that better aligns with the design identity of the iPad mini. According to several reports, the new iPad will be unveiled sometime next month alongside a new iPad mini with a Retina display.
