A report from last week claimed Apple is preparing to open a new research and development center in Taiwan to work on next-generation iPhone models and other future products. Such a facility would put Apple’s researchers and engineers a stone’s throw away from several of the company’s manufacturing and supply chain partners, and it looks like the report was indeed accurate. As noted by Digitimes, Apple has posted listings for a number of positions in Taipei including calls for a senior software instrumentation engineer, a senior AC-DC design engineer and a sensing system hardware engineer. The report states that in addition to Apple’s new Taiwan-based R&D center, some “market watchers” speculate that Apple could open a maintenance center in Taiwan as well.
