Sony warily eyeing the tablet market?

Rumor

sony-logo

According to a recent report from Bloomberg, Sony is in a holding pattern when it comes to the growing tablet market. Sony has been considering a tablet for several years but has been waiting for the market to prove there was demand for such a device. With the Apple iPad boasting of early success, Sony is said to be taking a closer look at the tablet segment but is still looking for additional proof that the tablet market is sustainable in the long run. While playing a conservative hand may prevent Sony from being burned, it may also put Sony in the unenviable position of being far behind the leaders in this explosive tablet market.

Why would anyone buy this crap? The iPad is THE tablet.

I bet Sony is wishing it bought WebOS now that HP has it. A high end Vaio tablet to match my Vaio Z would be perfect, but the way things are looking Sony’s going to be a loser in this field if they don’t step up their game. Just as Sony lost the music player field to Apple, they can say goodbye to having had any sort of say on the high end umpc/PDA field if they don’t jump on the tablet sector while its hot.

What about making the PSP2 into a tablet of sorts. Give it a decent UI and touch interface but keep the buttons for gaming. I would buy that in a flash.

standing by their tried and tested stance of coming late to the party. come on sony, you use to be a contender

Just like so many other companies, Sony used to make great products. Once they built up their brand to the point where they can slap the Sony name on a pile of crap and there would be a line, that’s what they started doing. Sony makes overpriced shit these days. We used to buy nothing by Sony. Over the years, spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on Sony. These days I wouldn’t take it for free. Just my 2 cents.

The Tiger hunts for prey, and it finds one, it recognizes, and jumps on it. Take the best cut, and leave the rest to the jackals, who tail him.

Sony used to be a tiger, now it is a jackal following the tiger Apple. What a shame.

I think they should go for it. If they could make it PS3 compatible, it’d sell like crazy.
