Up to this point, Netflix and The CW have had a lock on comic book-to-TV adaptations, but AMC is going to get its feet wet with a new series called Preacher — from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (who you might remember from Superbad and Pineapple Express fame).

As a franchise, Preacher isn’t nearly as established as many of the recent comic book translations, so you’ll be forgiven for not knowing the backstory of the character. Here’s how AMC describes the show:
“Preacher is the story of Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper, Agent Carter), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is inhabited by a mysterious entity that allows him to develop a highly unconventional power. Jesse, his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun, This Is England) embark on a journey to, literally, find God.”
The show won’t start airing on AMC until mid-2016, but over the weekend, the network shared the first full trailer on its YouTube channel. Like many other AMC dramas, this one is sure to be geared towards an adult audience, so don’t be surprised to see some gruesome violence when the show hits the airwaves next year.
