A video making the rounds claims that Google will soon let buyers choose from a wide range of new colors when ordering the Nexus 5 – the phone is currently available only in black and white – including red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple, according to a Phone Arena tipster who sent it in. The video shows what appears to be the official Google Play store listing for the Nexus 5, with a user switching between the eight available color options. However, chances are that this is just a trick meant to attract some attention, a “really bad fake,” as Ars Technica’s Ron Amadeo puts it.
“Go to the Play Store click on the color options [for the Nexus 5],” Amadeo wrote on Google+. “See the spinny loading arrow, the screen transition and the URL change that happens when you change colors? None of that happens in this video.”
While various Android handset makers are offering devices in various colors, with Motorola’s Moto X Moto Maker tool allowing users to further customize the visual aspect of their chosen smartphones, recent Nexus handset versions including the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have been available in black and white color options only.
