Google (GOOG) caught everyone off guard when it announced its new flagship Nexus 4 would only cost $299 (8GB) and $349 (16GB) unlocked. Prices like those are unheard of for an unlocked device. According to CNET’s probe of Twitter on Tuesday, the 8GB Nexus 4 was sold out within its first 15 minutes of availability on the Google Play Store. Stock for the 16GB Nexus 4 was quickly snatched up, followed by stock for the Nexus 10 tablet that’s manufactured by Samsung (005930).

Customers took to Twitter to report the Google Play Store had a hard time managing the high-traffic and demand for the new Nexus devices, often bugging out and failing to complete orders properly – a feeling Apple (AAPL) fans waiting to preorder the newest iPhone or iPad know all too well. BGR reviewed the Nexus 4 and found it to be one of the best, if not the best Android smartphone available despite the lack of 4G LTE.
