Samsung will soon launch a mini version of its 2014 flagship Android handset, a natural successor of similar mini devices that preceded it in past years, and SamMobile received new images showing the Galaxy S5 mini alongside benchmark screenshots that seem to confirm the handset’s hardware.

Just like in previous years, the mini version that accompanies Samsung’s top handset isn’t a flagship compact device. Instead, it offers mid-range specs unworthy of the Galaxy S5 moniker. The device will pack a 4.5-inch 720p Super AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, 1.4GHz Exynos 3 Quad processor, 450GHz quad-core Mali-400 MP4 GPU, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, 8-megapixel camera, 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, LTE, Wi-Fi 801.11n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, IR, NFC, GPS, fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor and Android 4.4.2 KitKat with TouchWiz on top.

Furthermore, the Galaxy S5 mini comes with IP67 certification, meaning it has water and dust protection just like its bigger brother.

It’s not clear when the phone will launch, although it wouldn’t be surprising to see it unveiled at Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Premiere event that takes place in New York.
