The first iOS 9 beta has only been out for a couple of days but developers have already been going over it with a fine-toothed comb to see whether it offers any hints about future iOS devices. 9to5Mac directs our attention to some code uncovered by developer Hazma Sood that shows a tantalizing glimpse at possible camera specs for future iPhones.

The code flagged by Sood shows that iOS 9 can support iPhones with front-facing cameras that can shoot 1080p video and can also capture 720p video at 240 frames per second. It seems the front-facing camera will also get a flash for the first time, which is something that no iPhone has yet featured.

“Currently, Apple reserves many of these capabilities for the more powerful backside camera, although it’s likely that Apple would plan feature improvements for the popular front facing camera on future iPhones,” 9to5Mac notes. “Major camera upgrades for the primary camera have been expected with this year’s iPhone revision.”

Taken together, it seems future iPhones are going to deliver selfie-taking capabilities that far exceed what current iPhones offer. We don’t know whether these specs will be part of the iPhone 6s that will release this fall or part of the iPhone 7 that we’ll get in 2016.
