Google Now will soon receive an awesome new feature, Droid-Life reports, but not all users will be able to take advantage of it without purchasing an additional piece of hardware. According to the publication, Google Now will soon be updated with the ability to interact with Nest thermostats, meaning that Android users who also happen to have a Nest installed in their homes or at the offices will be able to control it via Google’s smart assistant.
FROM EARLIER: Every single Android user needs to try this amazing Google Now trick
A user has noticed that telling Google Now to “set Nest to 68 degrees,” triggers an action. The app tries to complete the task, but fails, as the link between your Google account and your Nest thermostat is not set up yet. As soon as Google enables this missing link, users will be able to tie their Google accounts to Nest and issue commands for it via Google Now.
In addition to letting users set a desired temperature, Google Now will also let Nest know when you’re heading home, so that the thermostat can set your preferred temperature in advance.
Apparently, Google has already set up a Work with Nest official web page, but it’s not available to users yet. It’s not clear when Google Now Nest cards will go up, but images showing such cards, as published by Droid-Life, follow below.
UPDATE: The news is now official, and more details can be found on Google’s website.
