We are here at Samsung’s press event in New York City where the phone maker just took the wraps off of Sprint’s brand new GALAXY S II smartphone. The GALAXY S II Epic 4G Touch offers full support for Sprint’s 4G WiMAX network and is equipped with 16GB of storage, a large Super AMOLED Plus display, an 8-megapixel camera capable of recording 1080p video, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video chats, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor. We really like the textured back of the phone, which gives it a good grip, but the plastic build still feels just a bit cheap to us. We really wish Samsung would adopt stronger materials in its flagship devices, such as metals and soft-touch rubberized plastic. Still, the phone easily zips through Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and Samsung’s custom TouchWiz user interface. Sprint will be the first to launch the GALAXY S II Epic 4G Touch on September 16th and it’s priced at $199.99 with a new two-year contract.
