If there’s one thing that Nokia’s high-end Lumia smartphones do better than any other phones in the world, it’s taking beautiful pictures. The Lumia 1020’s 41-megapixel camera won wide acclaim as the best smartphone camera in the world and other Lumias also have all-around excellent picture-taking capabilities. Now Windows Phone Central brings us word that Microsoft has taken a step toward making Lumia cameras better than ever with a new update that adds several features that photography fans should just love.

Among other things, the newest update adds the Living Images feature that adds a small amount of movement to your pictures that essentially makes them into short one-second videos; the Continuous Autofocus feature that lets you focus the phone’s camera much more quickly; support for surround sound capture in videos; and the New Camera Roll feature that comes “with Full Resolution Zoom and inline playback of video, cinemagraph, smart sequences and refocus images.”

Windows Phone Central says that you’ll need the latest firmware update to get all these new camera features and you’ll also need a high-end device such as the Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 to support them. Nonetheless, if you’re someone who bought a high-end Nokia because of its killer camera, it looks like you’re in for a treat.
