Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Honeycomb tablet hands-on!

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 Honeycomb tablet hands-on!

We met up with Samsung during the CTIA Wireless trade show in Orlando to get up close and personal with the Galaxy Tab 8.9, Samsung’s new Android tablet that fills the space between its current 10-inch and 7-inch models. We certainly think Samsung hit the sweet spot with this one. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is just 8.6mm thick, and it felt amazing — it’s much more sleek in the hand than the original chunkier 7-inch Galaxy Tab. Under its hood, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 has a 1GHz dual-core processor just like the 10-inch model. Demo devices weren’t powering up when we played with them, though, so we tested the Galaxy Tab 8.9’s fresh new user interface on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and we definitely have some thoughts on the new UI to share. Hit the jump for more hands-on thoughts and don’t forget to check out our photo gallery.

Verizon’s Samsung Stealth gets pictured; April release date rumored

Verizon’s Samsung Stealth gets pictured; April release date rumored

Formerly known as the SCH-i520, the Samsung Stealth made a brief appearance at the Consumer Electronics show back in January. Announced along with ten other LTE devices by Verizon Wireless, the Stealth was forced to play second fiddle to the ThunderBolt, BIONIC, and XOOM. But today, we get to pay a little homage to the forgotten, 4G handset, thanks to several images of the device frolicking in the wild acquired by blog TechnoBuffalo. If you recall correctly, the device boasts a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus screen, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p video recording, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, LTE/CDMA radios, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, aGPS, HDMI-out, and Android 2.2. TB‘s tipster notes that the battery on the device seemed to perform quite well, yielding a full day of use with LTE enabled, and that the device should hit store shelves in mid-April. Pick your poison: ThunderBolt or Stealth. Hit the jump to check out some additional images of the Samsung handset. More →

Samsung’s SCH-I520 Android handset packs LTE and front-facing camera; headed to Verizon

When it rains 4G LTE handsets it pours them, no? Gizmodo has been sent in another image of a second, and until now unknown, Samsung, Android, LTE handset — the SCH-I520. The device runs Android 2.2.1, had a front-facing camera, and, according to reports, will have the TouchWiz interface but not be Bing’ed out. Decisions, decisions. Do we go with the Incredible HD or this offering from Sammy? What a great predicament to be in.

Samsung Continuum gets pictured, dual display device headed to Verizon

Samsung Continuum gets pictured, dual display device headed to Verizon

What do we have here? It looks like the Galaxy S branded Samsung Continuum; a device with not one, but two displays. Engadget was sent in several images of the device whose most notable feature is an additional, smaller display below the standard Android soft-keys. The secondary display, which is being called the “ticker,” displays date, time, RSS feed, weather, and other pertinent information.  The ticker activates itself automatically when you grip the lower half of the Continuum. Pretty slick. The device is reported to have a side-mounted micro-SD card slot and dedicated camera button as well. We can see why Verizon started running the buy-one get-one promotion on the Fascinate just weeks after launch. More →

Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Review

Sprint Samsung Epic 4G Review

The Samsung Epic 4G is Sprint’s second 3G/4G hybrid Android device. Although its form does not resemble that of the Captivate, Fascinate, or Vibrant, it has been adopted into the Galaxy S family of handsets. Physical appearance aside, the device comes complete with the standard set of Galaxy S equipment — TouchWiz 3.0 interface, 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, and 4-inch Super AMOLED display — but sets itself apart by being the only device to have a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard. The Epic is poised for an August 31st release on the Now Network. We’ve been putting this bad boy through its paces for the last few weeks, so hit the jump and lets do this thing. More →

Once all the bugs are worked out, how many of you would rather run stock Android than Samsung’s TouchWiz interface? Video after the jump. More →

T-Mobile Vibrant: $199.99 on July 21st

t-mobile-vibrant

The Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant has been a long time coming, but today an official release date and pricing were finally announced. As of July 21st, T-Mobile will be selling the Vibrant for $199.99, that price of course assuming a new 2-year contract. T-Mobile might have a bit of a tough sell on its hands considering that AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and even U.S. Cellular will be offering the Galaxy S in one form or another, but T-Mobile has a trick up its sleeve: anyone who purchases a Vibrant will get a free copy of The Sims 3 Collectors Edition, and a 2GB microSD card pre-loaded with Avatar. Triple win, right?

Sprint announces the Samsung Epic 4G

epic-4g

Sure it might have a laughably bad name, but there’s no way in hell you can laugh at the Samsung Epic 4G’s specs. A part of the Galaxy S family, the Epic 4G is Sprint’s second 4G WiMAX smartphone. To go on sale later this year for an undisclosed price, the Epic 4G has a 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, sliding QWERTY keypad, 5 megapixel camera with 720p video capture, front-facing camera for video calling, GPS, Wi-Fi b/g/n, mobile hotspot support for five devices, six-axis motion sensor, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, and 512MB RAM / 1GB ROM. It will come to market running Android 2.1 — with a bit of help from Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0, naturally — but Sprint has gone on the record as saying an update to Android 2.2 won’t be that far off once the Epic 4G is released. Good to know. More →

Verizon enters the Galaxy S fray with the Fascinate, U.S. Cellular tags along

Galaxy-S-GT-I9000

AT&T has the Captivate, T-Mobile has the Vibrant, and now Verizon Wireless has the Fascinate, it’s very own iteration of the Samsung Galaxy S. Featuring the same 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, 5 megapixel camera and 1GHz Hummingbird processor as its siblings, the Fascinate also has a six-axis motion control for an enhanced gaming experience, Swype virtual keyboard, and comes pre-loaded with Bing Search and Bing Maps. U.S. Cellular also announced that it will be jumping on the Galaxy S bandwagon, although what its model will be named and what most of its tailor-made features will be are still a mystery. Then again, so are its price and release date. All we know is that it, just like the Fascinate, will be available this Fall. More →

T-Mobile details the Samsung Vibrant

samsung-vibrant

AT&T is no longer the only American carrier to officially have a variant of Samsung Galaxy S coming soon, as T-Mobile has finally gotten around to admitting that it will be releasing the Android 2.1 smartphone under the name Vibrant. Sporting a chrome bezel that is reminiscent of the first three generations of iPhone, the Vibrant has the same 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 4″ WVGA Super AMOLED display, and 5 megapixel camera as the Galaxy S. No word yet on a release date or pricing, but we imagine we’ll learn next week, be it by press release or leak. More →

Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs emerge at long last

Samsung Galaxy S Pro specs emerge at long last

sprint-samsung-

There’s little in the way of proof that the following specifications are accurate, but according to one of Android Central’s “tried-and-true” tipsters, we now have the tentative specs for the Samsung Galaxy S Pro. Software wise, the Galaxy S Pro is said to be presently running Android 2.1 with Samsung’s TouchWiz 3.0 overlay. In terms of hardware, you have a WVGA Super AMOLED display (possibly the same unit found on the non-Pro Galaxy S), 5 megapixel camera with 720p video recording, front-facing camera, 512MB RAM, 8.2 GB of internal memory, and a custom 1GHz Cortex A8 processor. As for radios, it’s said that the Galaxy S Pro will run on both Sprint’s EV-DO and WiMAX networks, with a space for a SIM card indicating that we’re looking at HSDPA roaming for Europe and Asia. GPS isn’t mentioned but is surely a given, and the Wi-Fi chip will support the b/g/n protocols. Where build quality is concerned, the tipster did single out various components as feeling “plasticy”, although with the unit in question being a prototype, we won’t let that worry us just yet. New images of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy Pro S leak out

sprint-samsung-galaxy-s-pro

It seems that there was a bit of doubt surrounding yesterday’s leak of the Sprint-bound Samsung Galaxy S Pro. Well in order to put the debate to rest, two new images of what’s shaping up to be a really nice Android handset. They don’t reveal a whole lot of new information, but we can clearly see that there’s an LED flash underneath the 5 megapixel camera (something which the regular Galaxy S doesn’t have) and that the phone does indeed carry both Galaxy S and 4G WiMAX branding. Click on through to check out an image of the splash screen which is adorned with the Galaxy S logo. More →
