iPad mini’s thinner bezels know when to reject ‘resting thumbs’

In order for Apple (AAPL) to get the iPad mini to a thin and light form factor that’s comfortable to hold in one hand, the bezel surrounding the display had to be reduced. If you look carefully, the bezel flanking the left and right side of the iPad mini is half as thin as the bezel on above and below the display. This means there’s less room for your thumbs to grip the iPad mini and part of your thumb will be resting on the display itself. According to Apple’s official iPad mini page, iOS has been tweaked so that “iPad mini intelligently recognizes whether your thumb is simply resting on the display or whether you’re intentionally interacting with it.” Now that’s a nifty feature.
