Google’s (GOOG) vice president of corporate development, David Lawee, sat down with Bloomberg to talk about the ongoing patent disputes within the mobile industry and more specifically Apple’s recent victory over Samsung. The executive revealed that the Mountain View-based company wasn’t investing into the patent ecosystem and was slow in patenting its own technology. “We didn’t really believe rounded corners were patentable,” Lawee said. “We just didn’t buy into that notion of protecting your IP and it was a wake up call.” Over the past year, Google has focused more on its patent portfolio, going as far as to spend $12.5 billion to acquire Motorola Mobility and its portfolio of 17,000 patents.
