WWDC 2024 starts next week. With several AI announcements expected for iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS 15, this highly-anticipated keynote won’t feature major hardware being unveiled, according to a top insider.
In his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman says no “hardware slated to be announced at WWDC unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device launching later.” In the previous WWDC keynotes, Apple unveiled a new Mac Studio, 15-inch MacBook Air, Mac Pro, and Apple Vision Pro, it seems this year will be marked by only software announcements.
That said, here’s when you can expect some Apple products that could have been announced during WWDC 2024 but might launch later this year.
Fourth-generation Apple TV 4K: First rumored to launch in the first half of 2024, a new Apple TV model “isn’t imminent.” This means a more powerful version of the company’s set-top box could be released in the second half of the year. The new features are unknown.
New Mac Studio: With no more M3 Mac models expected for 2024, the new iteration of the Mac Studio, with the M4 Ultra processor, will launch in mid-2025
New Mac Pro: A new version of the Mac Pro isn’t expected until late 2025. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also previously reported that Apple was working on a new design, but it’s unclear if this could be the completely revamped generation.
M4 MacBook Air: New M3 MacBook Air models were released in early 2024, but they were rapidly followed by the M4 iPad Pro announcement, so Apple won’t update the MacBook Air until the first half of 2025.
AirTag 2: While I had hoped we would see a new AirTag this year, rumors expect this item tracker to be released in mid-2025. Hopefully, it will be announced during WWDC 2025.
Wrap up
Even without hardware announcements, WWDC 2024 is expected to be pretty packed with software features. BGR will make sure to bring all the details as we learn more about them.
