Dubbed “Pangu,” the first iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak to be publicly released comes from Chinese developers, and utilizes an exploit demoed to them by famed jailbreaker i0n1c, who recently proved that iOS 7.1.1 running on 2013 devices can be successfully jailbroken.
In addition to Cydia, the program installs a Chinese app store with illegal apps, Redmond Pie reports, but contains no malware according to iH8sn0w, also a known figure in the iOS jailbreak universe.
Pangu currently works with Windows only, and doesn’t even have an interface in English, but the iOS 7.1.1 untethered jailbreak procedure works, and a new video from BestTechInfo shows the full process in action.
After Apple patched the iOS 7.0 untethered jailbreak when it released iOS 7.1, a new program was not released, with hackers believed to be more interested in protecting security exploits that make jailbreak possible until a next major iOS update arrives – specifically iOS 8 – in order to avoid having them patched by an upcoming iOS 7.1.x release.
Apple is expected to soon release iOS 7.1.2, an update meant to address various bugs, and which could further patch jailbreak-related security flaws in iOS.
The video showing the Pangu jailbreak in action follows below.
