Apple confirmed to be testing new iPad mini model without Retina display

You know that fantastic sounding next-generation Kindle Fire HD with a high-resolution display Amazon is cooking up? And the new high-res Nexus 7 that Google just debuted? As some had suspected, it looks like these new slates might not have any bite-sized high-resolution competition from Apple this year. According to information buried in iOS 7 beta 4 code uncovered by a source speaking with 9to5Mac, Apple is indeed testing a new iPad mini model that features a faster A6 processor but no Retina display. This is likely just one of many iPad mini models Apple is testing of course, but multiple earlier reports claiming a low-resolution second-generation iPad mini would launch in 2013 ahead of a new Retina model next year suggest this new Retinaless model could in fact be Apple’s next iPad mini.
