Don’t expect Apple to work any miracles with the Apple Watch’s battery life. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman has the goods on what Apple’s aiming for with the Apple Watch’s battery and he reports that “as of 2014, Apple wanted the Watch to provide roughly 2.5 to 4 hours of active application use versus 19 hours of combined active/passive use, 3 days of pure standby time, or 4 days if left in a sleeping mode.” Right now, however, it seems that the watch will only get two or three days of pure standby time, Gurman’s sources say.

While this isn’t terrible as far as smartwatches go, it could also be a real barrier to adoption for many consumers who may not want to charge the device every night. Early smartwatches such the Moto 360 have delivered similar battery life and early adopters have expressed disappointment about how much juice they get per charge.

Gurman also reports that Apple is doing a lot of work on a MagSafe-based inductive charging mechanism that so far has delivered disappointing charge times.
