Apple may bring the high-resolution Retina display found in the new 15-inch MacBook Pro to its smaller 13-inch model with a product update this fall. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities on Thursday said in a note to investors that he expects the Cupertino-based company to ramp up production of a next-generation 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display in September. The updated computer would then arrive on store shelves by October, in time for the holiday shopping season.
Kuo’s estimates have previously been spot on; he was the first to indicate that Apple would scrap its 17-inch MacBook Pro, and to claim that the 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display would be sold alongside a MacBook Pro with a lower-resolution display and a thicker design.
In the note, which was obtained by Apple Insider, the analyst claims that Apple was likely unable to unveil the new product at WWDC earlier this week because of a low yield rate and greater assembly difficulty. The 13-inch model will likely feature a slimmer design, even slimmer than the 15-inch model, and lack an optical disc drive.
Kuo also expects the computer’s screen resolution to be 2,560 by 1,600 pixels, and he claims the 13-inch model will rely on Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics, rather than an NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M GPU.
