Okay, maybe not EXACTLY like Mr. Beast’s video, but you can’t deny that they look eerily similar.

Today, Netflix released the official trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge, its upcoming game show that will — of course — recreate the challenges that players faced in the series that became a global phenomenon. The series will make its streaming premiere on November 22, 2023.

You can watch the official trailer for Squid Game: The Challenge on YouTube below:

What is Squid Game: The Challenge about?

As explained in the synopsis, Squid Game: The Challenge will pit 456 players against each other. Only one person will win and, if they do, they will take home $4.56 million. The series was shot in the United Kingdom.

Though the reality version of Squid Game isn’t a matter of life or death, there’s still a lot on the line: 456 players will compete to win $4.56 million, Netflix’s largest cash prize in reality television history. Through a series of games, each player will be pushed to their limits and forced to ask themselves just how far they’ll go to win, with opportunistic alliances, cutthroat strategies and timely betrayals to follow.

You can tell from the trailer that the gameshow will end up being much like the series itself — without all of the death, of course. Like any good competition show, people seem to immediately create alliances, deceive, and cheat others out of the prize.

While the stakes in Squid Game: The Challenge aren’t life and death, a glistening, cash-filled piggy bank hanging over the dormitory certainly turns up the intensity. “I’m going to be your best friend, but I will absolutely double cross you,” one contestant says in the clip, while another remarks, “People’s true colors are starting to come out.” But, in the end, only one will walk away with the prize. And to make millions, they’ll first have to make friends and even more enemies along the way.

But wait. Haven’t we already seen this? Well, not exactly. YouTube sensation Mr. Beast recently hosted his own real-life recreation of Squid Game in a competition between 456 people that netted the winner $456,000. The two look quite similar, of course, since both are based on the actual series. You can tell that Netflix had an even bigger budget for its own competition, however.
