It took just nine days for Nintendo to kill the fan-made Pokemon Uranium game that took its developers more than nine years to create. The game became an instant hit – not surprising, considering it has the magic “Pokemon” word in its title – running up no less than 1.5 million downloads during that brief period of time.

“After receiving more than 1,500,000 downloads of our game, we have been notified of multiple takedown notices from lawyers representing Nintendo of America,” the creators of Pokemon Uranium said in a statement, The Wrap reports. “While we have not personally been contacted, it’s clear what their wishes are, and we respect those wishes deeply.
Does that mean you can’t play Pokemon Uranium unless you’ve already downloaded it? No, no it doesn’t. While the creators won’t make it available any longer, anyone who owns the game already can still share it. The game was available free of charge before Nintendo decided to remove it, and sharing it is also free.
“We will no longer provide official download links for the game through our website,” they continued. “We have no connection to fans who re-upload the game files to their own hosts, and we cannot verify that those download links are all legitimate. We advise you to be extremely cautious about downloading the game from unofficial sources.”
We’d double down on that final warning. But, hey, you’re free to do whatever you want with your mobile devices.
