iOS 18 was previewed during the WWDC 2024 keynote early in June. With this operating system now available, there are some features that have been delayed until iOS 18.1, 18.2, and even later.
That said, these are 11 upcoming iOS 18 features that have been delayed from this system original’s release:
An all-new Mail experience: Later this year, Maill will get a redesign with on-device categorization to organize your messages and help you stay up to date across all your accounts. Apple explains that the Primary category includes your most essential emails and the rest of your messages will be organized into new categories like Transactions, Promotions, and Updates.
Robot vacuum cleaner support: One of the iOS 18 delayed features is the Home app’s support for robot vacuum cleaners. Once available, users will be able to ask them to enter clean mode and power on/off, among other requests.
View your home electricity use: Another delayed Home app feature is the ability to see your home electricity usage. California’s eligible Pacific Gas and Electric Company customers will be the first to try this function.
Apple also says its upcoming Apple Intelligence platform, which will launch in beta by October, will add new features and additional languages “in the course of next year.”
That said, these are some of the functions that, even launching in beta, will have its official release delayed for a later date:
- Writing Tools: Users can rewrite, proofread, and summarize text nearly everywhere they write, including Mail, Notes, Pages, and third-party apps;
- Memories in Photos: Users can create stories they want to see just by typing a description. Apple Intelligence will pick out the best photos and videos based on the description, craft a storyline with chapters based on themes identified from the photos, and arrange them into a movie with its own narrative arc;
- Clean Up tool: This Photos app feature can identify and remove distracting objects in the background of a photo without accidentally altering the subject;
- Siri: Users type to Siri and switch between text and voice to communicate with Siri in whatever way feels right for the moment.
- On-device intelligence: Siri will understand context from Apple’s built-in apps, so you’ll be able to ask them about a podcast someone messaged you some days ago or remind you not to schedule two appointments at the same time;
- Image Playground: Users can create playful images in seconds, choosing from Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. This app is built right into apps like Messages and is also available in a dedicated app and won’t be available before iOS 18.2;
- Genmoji: Create unique emojis by inserting a prompt to mix (non)existing figures; it will come later this year;
- ChatGPT integration: When you feel Apple Intelligence isn’t enough, you can allow ChatGPT to access Writing Tools and other features for a better response. This will be available in 2025.
