Apple on Thursday released beta versions for its upcoming software releases, including iOS 10 and macOS Sierra, that were only available to developers prior to yesterday. If you’ve got an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and you’ve been exercising restraint, you might finally want to install iOS 10 beta the proper way – that means running the public beta rather than hacking your way into it. In what follows, we’re going to tell you how to do it.
DON’T MISS: This is how awesome a MagSafe charger would be on the iPhone
The entire process is incredibly easy. All you need to do is make sure your iOS device can run iOS 10 – here’s what you need to know in that department.
Once that’s done, you should consider backing up your iOS device to your computer or iCloud to make sure your personal data is protected in case something goes wrong. You may want to ise iTunes and encrypting your backup. That way, not only is your data protected from prying eyes, but the backup also keeps usernames and passwords for your apps.
Next, you’re going to have to remove any existing profiles from your iOS device – ignore this step if you’re not running any earlier iOS beta versions on your iPhone. If you’re on iOS 9.3.3 beta or a hacked iOS 10 beta 2 version, head over to Settings, General, Profile. Tap on the installed profile, and then tap Delete Profile.
Once that’s done, head to http://beta.apple.com inside Safari on your iPhone or iPad, sign in using your Apple ID, tap on iOS, and scroll down until you find the “enroll your iOS device” under Get Started. Tap that, and then download the profile you need for the public beta to be installed.
Now go to the Settings app again and tap on Software Update, where the iOS 10 public beta release is waiting to be downloaded. It’s a hefty download at over 1.5GB in size (it varies depending on the device and what OS version you’re currently running). After it’s downloaded, you can install it. Make sure you have a dependable Wi-Fi connection for this process, and that you either plug in your device or that you have over a 50% battery charge for the process to be completed.
That’s it. After that you’ll receive all the new iOS 10 public beta releases, which will become available on your device just like any regular update. If for any reason you want to downgrade to iOS 9, follow the instructions at this link.
