Samsung expects its latest flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S III, to top 10 million sales as early as next month. This is despite ongoing component shortages, the Associated Press reported. Shin Jong-kyun, president of Samsung’s mobile communications business, revealed the news to reporters on Sunday. “It has been tough to keep up with demand,” the executive said, adding that the company expects to resolve the supply issues with mobile components sometime next week. Despite the milestone, analysts fear Samsung’s second quarter smartphone sales could be much lower than previously expected, although Jong-kyun disagrees. “Despite the tough economic situation in Europe and problems with supplying components for the Galaxy S III, the second-quarter earnings will be better than the first quarter,” he said. Samsung began selling its Galaxy S III smartphone in Europe on May 29th, and is now expanding the handset’s global availability. The South Korean manufacturer said the device will be available from nearly 300 mobile carriers across 147 countries by the end of July.
