Microsoft will reportedly launch a new Nokia Windows Phone 8.1 handset that will focus on selfies, no pun intended. The Verge has learned that the Nokia device code-named “Superman” will feature a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, a significant improvement compared to most other handsets. Additionally, the handset will feature a 4.7-inch display and mid-ranged specs, according to the site.
The phone will be released “towards the end of the year,” although a clear launch date is not available. Pricing details for the handset aren’t available either at this time.
The Verge says that Superman will arrive alongside a new Windows Phone 8.1 update, the second update the OS will receive this year after the one set to arrive in July. These updates will be rolled out to all supported Windows Phone devices.
In addition to the Superman selfie-friendly handset, Microsoft is going to launch other Windows Phone 8.1 handsets this year, including a “Goldfinger” device and two other phones. It’s not clear whether these devices will come with Nokia branding, or whether they’ll have new Microsoft branding.
Other smartphones that pack a 5-megapixel front-facing camera include the two new One handsets, HTC’s M8 and OnePlus’s first One.
