Nokia and Android. Android and Nokia. Smartphone enthusiasts have wondered for quite some time what Android would be like on one of Nokia’s signature handsets. While most were likely hoping for Android on a high-end Nokia phone, the mystery will soon be over. We’ll never know what Nokia’s current situation would be if Samsung hadn’t scared Nokia CEO Stephen Elop away from Android. But now, for the first time ever, we’ll at least know what an Android phone from Nokia is like.

About a month ahead of a deal that will see Nokia hand control of its smartphone business over to Microsoft, the company reportedly plans to unveil the “Nokia X,” an Android-powered smartphone aimed at emerging markets.

According to earlier rumors, the company’s first — and potentially last — Android phone will feature very basic specs including a 4-inch WVGA display, a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel camera and a 1,500 mAh battery. The Nokia X will also reportedly feature a user interface the makes Android home screens look like Windows Phone’s tile-based interface.

We’ve seen the specs, we’ve seen the likely price, we’ve seen the marketing renders and we’ve seen the photos. Now, it’s finally time to see the Nokia X get official.

Nokia’s Mobile World Congress press conference is scheduled to begin 12 hours from now around 2:30 a.m. EST on Monday, which is 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night on the west coast and 8:30 a.m. Monday morning local time in Barcelona, Spain.

Nokia will be streaming the event live on its Nokia Conversations blog and a link to the site can be found below in our source section.
