The latest data from research firms IDC and Gartner reveals that the PC industry is imploding. Year over year, PC sales dropped by about 10-12%. Apple, though, continued to buck this industry-wide trend as Mac sales jumped dramatically in an otherwise declining market.

Year over year, Apple enjoyed the biggest improvement in PC marketshare, jumping from 5.9% during the second quarter of 2014 to 7.8% during the second quarter of 2015. What’s more, Apple was the only manufacturer to see an actual increase in PC shipments year over year. With some players like HP suffering a more than 10% decline in growth, Apple’s year over year growth checked in at an impressive 16.1%.

The following chart courtesy of AppleInsider is rather telling.

With Apple set to release its earnings results for the June quarter on July 21, it’ll be interesting to see what the official sales figures look like. As a measuring stick, note that Apple during its June 2014 quarter sold 4.4 million Macs and generated $5.5 billion in revenue.
