Samsung on Tuesday quietly unveiled a new family of tablets, the Galaxy Tab 4 models that have not only been spotted at the FCC and in benchmark tests recently and whose press images have also been leaked ahead of launch. As previously revealed, the Galaxy Tab 4 tablets won’t be the high-end AMOLED high-resolution display-sporting devices that some people expected them to be. Instead, we’re looking at devices that will likely be very affordable when they launch this quarter, although pricing details for the tablets have not been mentioned at this time.

Just like its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab 4 will be available in three sizes, including the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and the Galaxy Tab 4 10.1. Except for screen sizes, battery sizes and some slight storage variation, the 7-inch, 8-inch and 10.1-inch Galaxy Tab 4 are perfectly similar when it comes to specs and features.

The Galaxy Tab 4 offers a WXGA display (1280 x 800 resolution), 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage (although the 7-inch model will be available in an 8GB version as well,) microSD support, 3-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS and Android 4.4 KitKat on board with the expected Samsung TouchWiz software features on top of it.

When it comes to battery size, we’re looking at 4450mAh and 6800mAh batteries for the 8-inch and 10.1-inch models, with the battery size of the smaller version still to be revealed. Connectivity-wise, the tablets will be available in Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G versions, and users will be able to choose either a white or black color option.

As for the Galaxy Tab 4’s designs, the new tablets are touted as devices ready to offer an “exceptional multimedia experience for the whole family in a sleek, lightweight design.” The tablets have a “more premium and portable design,” – meaning that they have a “textured, premium look and feel back cover,” and that they’re just 7.95mm thick (the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 and Galaxy Tab 4 10.1) and 9mm thick (the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0). When it comes to weight, they all measure under 500g (487g, 320g and 276g depending on tablet size).
